Tao Te Ching (Chapter 23)

To talk little is natural.

High winds do not last all morning.

Heavy rain does not last all day.

Why is this? Heaven and Earth!

If heaven and earth cannot make things eternal,

How is it possible for man?

He who follows the Tao

Is at one with the Tao.

He who is virtuous

Experiences Virtue.

He who loses the way

Is lost.

When you are at one with the Tao,

The Tao welcomes you.

When you are at one with Virtue,

The Virtue is always there.

When you are at one with loss,

The loss is experienced willingly.

He who does not trust enough

Will not be trusted.

(By Lao Tsu, translated by Gia-Fu Feng and Jane English)

News Flash

Don’t listen to trading news. “To talk little is natural. High winds do not last all morning. Heavy rain does not last all day.” Market news reporters many times don’t know what is moving the market. However, their job is to write and talk about this topic, so they pick a plausible reason for market movement after the market has already made its move.

Ecclesiastes

“If heaven and earth cannot make things eternal, how is it possible for man?” Ecclesiastes 3:1 states, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven” (King James Version). No person has control of life or its seasons. “When you are at one with loss, the loss is experienced willingly.” “A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away” (Ecc. 3:6, KJV).

If you are experiencing trading losses, examine your life as a whole. Do you need to “cast away” certain old things in your life to make way for the new?”  Are some of these things intangible, like attitudes (egoism)? Referring to the Tao Te Ching, lines 17 and 18, “the inner meaning of loss here is reduction of selfishness, pride, egoism, greed, and possessiveness . . .” (The Taoist Classics, Volume One, by Thomas Cleary).

Faith

“He who does not trust enough will not be trusted.” You need to realize that the way through your life guided by the Tao is toward the greater good. You need to have faith that a benevolent power is guiding your footsteps. Only then will you be entrusted with the key to open the door to your vast inner potential.
