“Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? They say unto him, Caesar’s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s” (Matthew 22:19-21, KJV).
If you put worldly goals first, then you serve Caesar or a current cultural icon symbolizing materialism. You’re not serving God. Since trading could be considered a bastion of materialism, you walk a moral tightrope while honing a trading philosophy . . . perhaps, a trading theology. Theology means talking about God. How can you weave God’s values and God’s goals into your trading?
“. . . [Become] a person whose soul will not be satisfied except with the highest spiritual goals. . . . One who seeks the kingdom of God cannot put worldly goals ahead of spiritual goals. . . . Where a conflict of commitments and loyalties occurs, the loyalty to the spiritual reality must come first” (The Kingdom Within: The Inner Meaning of Jesus’ Sayings by John A. Sanford, p.75).
Spiritual reality is just as real as material reality. Spiritual reality is within you and outside you simultaneously. It is the word of God engraved in your heart and the living God who interacts with outer reality.
Let God In
