Your Gift
As a trader, you may have a gift to trade a certain futures product (e.g., S&P 500, T-Bonds, Oil or Gold, etc.) within the following broader markets: currencies, energies, financials, grains, indices, meats, metals and softs. Explore certain currency pairs within the forex. Explore ETFs, mutual funds–and the stock market through a certain favorite stock or stocks.
Specialize
I recommend specializing in a single product and continually learning everything about it both fundamentally and technically. This presupposes your having discovered your gift in trading this specific product. Once you know what to trade, you need to know how to trade it.
Your Time-Interval
Are you gifted at scalping, daytrading, swing trading or investing? Be careful in testing for your gift because your gift may be swing trading oil whereas you may fail miserably daytrading oil. Also, you need to discover whether to trade the product (futures contract, stock, etc.) directly or through a derivative such as an option. Some people are natural born option traders.
