“And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:59-60, KJV).
The kingdom of God is preeminent. It comes before all things. Even the societally approved things like burying a father.
“But Jesus’ remark makes it clear that not even what then supposed to be a supreme and divinely ordained loyalty to one’s father should come between someone and the call to the kingdom. If the kingdom of God called this man to become a follower of Jesus, all other loyalties must be sacrificed” (The Kingdom Within: The Inner Meaning of Jesus’ Sayings by John A. Sanford, p.63-64).
Also, the father can be symbolic of the patriarchy, both internal and external. When a person becomes mature and autonomous person he or she may have a dream of the father dying. This symbolic and not literal event in the dream shows that he or she has become an individual.
As a trader, rules or methods that don’t come from within or resonate deep within, come from an external authority (the father). Ultimately, these rules or methods will be an unfulfilling and possibly losing way of trading. The best methods for each individual feel natural and have an effortlessness to them.
